Would Uncle Charlie do it?

If you are a Phillies fan, the hard, somber facts are staring you right in the face.  You know which ones I’m talking about:

23-9

13-21.

Best road team in baseball.  The worst home team in baseball for a first place team.  Maybe ever.

So the question is… would Uncle Charlie do it?  Will he fix the all-star game?  I mean, Charlie hopes his team will get back to the World Series.  They have as good a shot as any NL team right now.  Despite their current woes, they’re still right up there with the Dodgers as the two bets teams in the NL

That being said, would Manuel try to intentionally unintentionally blow the all-star game so that his Phillies would get to start the series on the road if they happen to get to the World series?

I know, I know, this is all in jest, but it makes you wonder a little bit.  Every team chomps at the bit for home field advantage in the playoffs in baseball.  But is it really home field advantage for the Fightin’ Phils?  They just look a lot loser on the road, without the expectations of the fans heavy on their minds.  I mean, its a tough task to repeat in baseball.  The last NL team to do it were the Reds in the 70′s.  I don’t think that they are still hung over from last year.  i think they place a heavy burden on their shoulders because of what they did last year and because they don’t want to disappoint their fans.

And don’t forget the bullpen.  the starters are so bad right now that the relief corps is burned out.  But that is a topic for another day.

So, would the Phillies be better starting off the World Series on the road, in Boston perhaps, than at home.  And if so, should Charlie try that hard to win this game.
