The Football Gods Are Cruel

VickWell, may be not the football gods, just the Philadelphia top brass.  And maybe cruel isn’t the best word, either.  How about stupid?  Arrogant?  Selfish?

As a Philadelphia sports fan, its going tot take a while to digest this.  And maybe I’ll never come to terms with this.

Tonight, Michael Vick, dog murderer  extraordinaire, became an Eagle.  The bile rises in my throat just tasting those words.

I am not going to recount his multiple crime and my feelings for the animal (yes, Vick stopped being a man ever since he killed that first dog).  If you want my opinion on him, read my last two posts on the subject.

This whole thing makes me sick.  i would rather have Dante Stallworth as an Eagle again than this creature.  Because intent goes a long way, and where Stallworth’s tragedy was an accident, though a dumb one, Vick committed pre-meditated murder.  I am sick and tired of hearing about how the man made a mistake.  This was no mistake- he knew full well what he was doing and he knew it was wrong.

I would love yo know what the Eagles were thinking.  Do they need a QB? No.  Another running back?  Nope.  Then why?  Do they need the controversy and protests that  are sure to ensue?  No.  Only one thing comes to mind: jealousy.  Jealousy of the Philadelphia Phillies.  Cliff Lee  won another game today.  3-0 with a sub 1.25 ERA.  the Phils alreay won 1 World Series and have a chance to win another one.  despite the fact that football season starts in a month, no one’s talking about the Eagles.  They were a footnote to the Phillies’ stretch run

But not any more.

Lurie and Banner don’t like sharing the spotlight.  they don’t like being the other woman.  The only reason for this move was for the publicity, because the team, and the fans, sure don’t need Michael Vick.

I am still an Eagles fan.  I follow the uniform, not the player, though Eagle green has lost a bit of that luster.  I will follow them and root for them.

But I will also pray that some dog lover on the other team during a game decides to shred Vick’s knee, ending his football career forever.

That’s all I’m going to say on the topic.  If you want to read more, check out the links below.
