Spongebob Summer Bash Review- To Squarepants or Not to Squarepants
110 viewsTonight debuted the first new episode in the Spongebob Summer Bash 10 Year Anniversary Special.
It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t horrible either. The premise is quite simple: Spongebob ruins all of his square pants in the dryer, so he has to buy new pants. The store is out of square pants, but they have a nice pair of round pants, which SB purchases.
Neither Patric nor Sandy recognize SB, and Squidward pretends not to, so SB believes he must start his life over in Bikini Bottom. And in contrast to his first day at the Krusty Krab in the very first episode, instead of becoming an ideal frycook, he follows Squidward’s example and becomes a rude slob.
The episode ends when Mr. Krabs tells Spongebob that he recognizes him, and if SB wants to be square pants again, all he has to do is take off his round pants. Spongebob does so, and begins working in just his underwear, until Sandy calls him Sponge Bob Underpants, which causes SB to scream in horror. End of episode.
Like I said, not great, a little slow, but funny. The scene where SB tries on different pants was funny but could have been made longer, like the Mermaid Man episode when SB uses the shrink ray on Squidward and hilarity ensues for a minute or two. The same can be said for the scene where SB shows Squidward a series of disturbing pictures of them together. They were funny, but only four of them. Could have been more.
The entire episode seems to be a giant lead-in to those final five minutes, when we see Spongbob become a mini-Squidward, but it was worth it. I laughed more than I did during any of the episodes in the last batch.
Another entertaining part was when SB removes Gary shell. We have seen multiple different things under his shell over the years, and this time we see Gary’s big blue butt, first without underwear, then with a nice big pair of tidy whities. Priceless.
I wish an episode of this magnitude had been a half an hour special, but beggars can’t be choosers.
Stay tunes over the weekend for more reviews!
