The Second Biggest Idiot At The UN Summit

chavezAnd the runner-up prize to the sparkling, insane speech by Gaddafi goes to… envelope please…  HUGO CHAVEZ!!

(Applause)

After listening to the logical, coherent, sobering words of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who offered even MORE proof of the Holocaust as well as explained the danger of a nuclear Iran, the viewers were treated to the verbal musings of yet another madman, Venezuelan president Hug Chavez.

Now, nothing can top Gaddafi, but Chavez’s speech was special in its own way.  In fact, maybe we should refer to Chavez as Hugo “Roger Ebert” Chavez, who spent the first half of his allotted time promoting a movie.

Yes, you heard me right.  A movie.  Specifically, the new movie by the ever-suspicious Oliver Stone called “South of the Border”, which I have been led to believe explores the positive side of Chavez and the Venezuelan government.  He’s desperate for the people of the world to shed the horrible, distorted (but true) view of him that he accuses the US media of disseminating.  He says that if people really want to understand what he and Venezuela are about, Americans need to turn of the TV and turn to Oliver Stone.  Because he’s not a monster.  he’s a teddy bear

Yeah… Oliver Stone, a man with as little integrity as Michael Moore, who takes words and facts and twists and manipulates them into perfect tiny packages to support his pre-concieved notions.  You know what i mean.  Remember Moore’s Sicko, where he takes several ill people to Cuba for treatment they couldn’t afford in the US to prove how Cuba was superior to the US?  Well, it would appear that Stone is moving in the same direction, finding whatever narrow, insane half-facts he can to support his belief that Chavez is not such a bad guy.  The fact that Chavez approves of the movie and its message is a clear, irrefutable sign that the movie is nothing more than a propaganda piece.  I bet stone could have cobbled together enough “facts” to make Hitler look like a victim.

These small, impoverished nations without any real economy except for oil are always ripe for the picking by these megalomaniacs who explain that everything they do is for the greater good.  And when everyone is poor and destitute, they are willing to accept any hint of strong leadership, regardless of how many screws are loose in said leader’s noggin.  Remember Germany after WWI?  Remember Hitler?  Don;t get me wrong, I am NOT comparring Chavez’s ideologies with Hitler, but these situations are always the same: desperate population plus strong, charismatic leader always leads to a situation where the people follow blindly because a string, crazy leader seems to be better than chaos.  And the result is always a stranglehold on the economy, on morals, on freedom.

In a related note, Chavez recently made airing “Family Guy” in Venezuela illegal because of its sometimes pro-marijuana message.  And, oh yeah, he wants to force cable companies to air ALL of his inane, rambling speeches.

So once again, strong leader, crazy leader, leads to the collapse of freedom.  I wonder how Stone will spin this into a positive, because I see no positive in a country, in a leader, who places his boot down so firmly on his population that its spine is ground into powder.  The man is a socialist monster who wants to strip away all true freedom in his country.  Yeah, sounds like fucking Utopia.  Everyone will be thrown some scraps at the cost of their dignity as long as they follow the whims of the madman.

And like with the Middle East, one can only wonder what kind of wasteland will be left once the oil is gone or the world no longer needs to it.  For now, Hugo has the power because he controls the oil fields, the only real source of income for the country.  but once its gone, once the people realize that they must fend for themselves because the government is no longer able to care for them, I wonder what kind of revolution we’ll see.  I know one thing, though:

They will finally know freedom
