I miss Dora and Boots. And I miss Diego and his annoying pet jaguar. I miss them because the the alternatives are even worse.
Have you ever seen Wonderpets, the adventures of a baby duck, turtle and hamster? Its horrible. It rots the brain. My wife loves it, thinks the lisp the duck has (his name is Ming-Ming) is adorable. It drives me nuts.
And then there is Ni Hao, Kai-lan, a cartoon featuring Chinese characters. The backgrounds are beautiful, but the stories are horrid and they are trying to get my kid to start speaking Chinese! I think china is trying to use this cartoon to start the take over of America. Characters have names like Ho-ho and Yea-Yea. It really is an atrocious show
Thank god he doesn’t like Yo Gaba Gabab- at least not yet. I’ve watched bits and pieces of that show, and it is bad enough to melt even my 2 year old’s brain. And what’s up with that big red guy? You know who am I talking about, the tall one that looks like male genitalia with genital warts. Totally inappropriate.
So I have learned to appreicte Dora and Diegobecause they are truly the lesser of two evils. Decent stories, only iminimally annoying, and at least they are teaching Spanish, a language they may actually have use for in the future.
Whatever happened to quality children’s programming. Anyone out there like me, in their early thirties, remember Pinwheel on Nick? Now that was awesome.
Kids TV is generally awful! Other bad sows are Dinosaur King and all of the other non-distinct trading card based shows!
I have to disagree on the Wonderpets front – my son loves animals and this show. When he plays outside he is always looking for something to “rescue” and sings the songs to himself. I agree it is a strange show at first sight – but worth persevering with!
I know, Wonder Pets isn’t all that bad. I just find the live animals kind of… well… creepy. I like my animation to be animation. The stories aren’t horrible, but listening to the animal’s voices, I swear, the sound activates the “Must kill something” switch in my head.
With you. I travel to the US quite a bit and I have seen the US (original) version and I found the voices a bit sickly. The UK version has been localised, and I find that it is more palatable!
